Effect Of Gossip on Celebrity Success

Television and other media play a critical role in a celebrity’s life. They provide information to the public about celebrity’s current activities and make the fashion and glamour industry known to the commoners. Both the celebrity and the commoner derive a benefit from the media’s constant exposure of the celebrity’s life. For the public, gossip is a welcome escape from routine and the depressive daily news. For the celebrity, gossip is a way to make oneself known. Ever notice some of the antics that young actors and actresses do? Many normal people would not even consider doing such things. Celebs often organize gossips to be generated about their activities. For the richer ones, PR people often find ways and means to get the celebrity on top of the news. Being famous is often the key to success, particularly in high fashion and cinema. People are more likely to go watch a movie with Leonardo Di Caprio than one with no famous actors. The actor’s escapades with her girlfriends are no stranger to his success on the big screen.

Gossip, however, has a knack of getting out of control. Rumors sometimes take up unimaginable proportions, distorting facts and making the celebrity infamous. Whoopi Goldberg certainly experienced this and often decried the potential of modern media to spin facts into extraordinary tales. Most of us do not take gossip seriously, but the stars that experience them (especially if they have not caused it) it can be a trying period. Some stars can become depressive. Others, simply fall out of grace and disappear from the public eyes.
