An Unlikely Friendship? Katy Perry and Rihanna

Singers Katy Perry, 24, and Rihanna, 21, seem like an unusual pair of pals. However, the two have been frequently spotted together and appear to be developing a close friendship. Although the two ladies have completely different musical and personal styles, they seem to have bonded over their similar celebrity statuses.
Perry and Rihanna’s friendship has been especially significant lately in light of Rihanna’s recent bout with domestic violence. After being assaulted in February by boyfriend and fellow singer Chris Brown, Rihanna has had to face a very personal struggle in a very public light. To get her mind off the issue, Perry has repeatedly taken her pal out for some much-needed fun. She has made it a point to be there to support Rihanna, who is clearly in need of some solid friendships at this point in her life. So, over the last few months, the two singers have been seeing more and more of each other.
In a recent interview, Perry acknowledged that she and Rihanna have been enjoying their gal-pal time. She notes that the two are both coping with the “rollercoaster” that is celebrity life, and, as a result, need the stability that comes with secure, female friendships. However, Perry also emphasized that the media has really blown the two stars’ relationship out of proportion. They are not best friends nor do they plan to go on vacation together, as some outlets have reported. Instead, the singers are simply two girls at similar points in their lives who can find a lot in common.
